my blorbo series. i've been rotating this bad boy in my brain for years. there's been a lot of evolutions in Bitter Bark thanks to that.

i wanted to get a page for this world set up but it is really barebones right now and subject to a lot of changes

Evelyn is working gigs as part of an indie band, she plays bass guitar. She ended her magic studies with what was required in high school, finding herself to be inclined towards electrical magic. Gregarious, loyal, and kind Evelyn has always stuck by her brother’s side, dedicating the same kind of loyalty to her friends even as they come and go in life. She’s more than a little worried by the growing rift and sense of unease that she’s beginning to feel around Nex. Willing and able to bend the rules, she has a strong sense of personal justice and few moral dilemmas about making things happen for better or worse. Absolutely morally gray.

Nex is deep into his studies, generalized magics without a major – something that’s supposed to manifest itself naturally and it irks him greatly that it’s not happened yet – working part time in the library. Deeply insecure and frustrated with what seems to be a lack of control and growth, Nex is an easy target for the corruption at hand. His drive and desire to know more and have more is his undoing. Reclusive and studious, he tends to not get out without encouragement from his sister. He leans on being detached to spiteful towards others depending on how he views them, and more importantly himself when compared to them. It’s a shield he’s constructed for a massive and deeply rooted inferiority complex. He needs to be toxic. He’s rude. He’s tragic. He’s a soaking wet cat. He does not punch down without feeling some kind of regret. He has to grapple with his morality and his desires. Does not speak in any way of emotions. Doesn’t really understand his own all that well.

Felicity is Evelyn’s long time bestie. She comes from a large family that she lives with. She’s the oldest sibling and it shows in a lot of ways. With parents that were working often to support them all, Felicity had to step up as a mini parent. As her siblings are older now it’s easier to let herself be herself. She’s fiercely loyal to her family which has been one of the largest aspects of her staying. Her additional income makes it easier on everyone. She worked as a cashier for a long time, but found the work to be crushing and making her health a lot worse, so she slowly made the switch to doing sex work instead. She finds it to be significantly more enjoyable. It’s also granted her more free time to think about going back to school and has brought back a lot of her bright cheerful personality to no longer be tied to retail work. Headstrong and confident her energy bounces off Evelyn’s creatively.
